New Year’s Concert 2020

On New Year’s Day 2020, at 3pm, the Southwold Concert Series presented a concert by artistic director Nathan Williamson and members of the Prometheus Orchestra, an ensemble based in Aldeburgh and made up of professional musicians from East Anglia. The programme was all Beethoven, in celebration of his 250th anniversary year, with the centerpiece a performance of the 4th Piano Concerto in a contemporary arrangement for piano and string quintet.

We were thrilled with the wonderful response to this inaugural New Year’s Day concerto, with St Edmund’s Church completely filled with an audience of at least 300 – the door staff honestly just lost count after a while as they attempted to squeeze everyone in and find every last available chair in the building! This thrilling response led to only a very small demand being made on the Southwold Music Trust’s resources, and all were agreed the New Year’s Day Concert must become a regular event.
