In December the Southwold Music Trust teamed up with Aldeburgh’s Jubilee Opera to present a concert in St Edmund’s Church involving around 50 Suffolk school children, including 20 members of Southwold Primary School.

The main feature of the concert was a fully-staged performance of ‘The Winter Star,’ a short opera by Malcolm Williamson based on the nativity story, which was preceded by a selection of music including songs by Suffolk composers Benjamin Britten, Jonathan Rutherford and Joseph Phibbs.

An audience of over 200 enjoyed this uplifting and inspiring concert, which was conducted by the National Youth Choir’s inspirational Dominic Peckham, with accompaniment from the professional instrumentalists of the Jubilee Opera Ensemble.

We are delighted to have been able to support this exciting educational and performing experience for local children, thanks to the generosity of our many local donors and supporters.
