Over 300 people attended our concert by Southend Boys and Girls Choirs St Edmund’s Church on Saturday 29th April.
We are hugely grateful to the choirs, their director Roger Humphrey, and accompanist Rosemary Pennington for staging such a wonderful concert, as well as the Town Mayor Melanie Tucker for hosting the event.
In order to encourage those who might not have been to a concert in Southwold before, the concert was totally free for all. A retiring collection was taken in aid of the two Town Mayor’s Charities, St Barnabas Care Home and the Southwold Music Trust, with over £1300 being taken. Interval refreshments were very generously provided by Adnams.
Several residents of St Barnabas Care Home were also able to attend the concert, being treated to front row seats.
Before the concert the Town Mayor gave a short speech thanking the Choir for sharing their skills and talents. The choir performed popular songs by composers such as Andrew Lloyd Webber and John Rutter, a selection of folk songs arrangements, and a group of songs from the hit musical, Les Miserables.
