The Southwold New Year’s Day concert returns on 1st January 2024 with a performance of Beethoven’s triumphal ‘Emperor’ Piano Concerto at 3pm in St Edmund’s Church, Southwold.
We might not like to admit it, but New Year’s Day can be a bit of a bore – there’s not a lot to do other than recover from the previous evening’s festivities, go for a walk, and end up in front of the telly. An hour-long matinee of live music is the perfect foil to the sense of anti-climax!
Southwold pianist Nathan Williamson will be joined by the Southwold Chamber Ensemble, comprised of professional musicians from across Suffolk, led by distinguished violinist Michael Dolan, in a performance of a rarely heard arrangement of the Emperor Concerto for piano and strings.
The programme will also contain Mozart’s famous Sonata in C major K.545, which the composer labelled (with his tongue firmly in his cheek) ‘For Beginners’. Its one of the most familiar and iconic pieces of the classical piano repertoire.
